Drug Crimes
Oklahoma City Attorney: Drug Charge Defense
Talk to a lawyer before paying a fine for marijuana possession. The police officer who issues a ticket for possession of marijuana often explains how to go to city court and pay the fine. What the officer may not tell you is that, by doing so, you are pleading guilty to a crime. Marijuana possession may be a misdemeanor, but your conviction will become part of your permanent record.

Before you plead guilty to a crime, you should understand the long-term consequences, as well as other options available to you under the laws of Oklahoma. I have extensive experience as a criminal defense lawyer in area courts, and will explain exactly what your position is and recommend a course of action. I want you to make an informed decision before taking action.
Drug trafficking charges are based on a variety of factors. The arresting officers note the quantity of the drug (marijuana, cocaine, meth, heroin, ecstasy or another controlled substance). They also note possession of large quantities of cash, a scale or plastic baggies — all considered evidence of possession with intent to distribute. They will then work with the district attorney to see that you are charged with the highest level of crime possible. A conviction for trafficking means a minimum sentence of 20 years! As your attorney, it is my job to get those charges reduced if not thrown out altogether. In many cases I am successful. If not, I have extensive experience as a criminal defense lawyer, and am fully prepared to defend you against drug charges in court.
Treatment and sentencing alternatives
As soon as I take a case, I work to improve my client's position. If my client faces any type of drug charge, or was charged with DUI or DWI, I consider helping my client get into treatment or counseling before the court appearance. If my client pleads guilty or is convicted of a charge, I work with the court on sentencing alternatives such as drug court or long-term treatment. It is important to show the court you are doing all you can to help yourself.
